LSIL stands forlow-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion. This is caused by human papilloma virus or HPV. This is one of the most commonly occurring infections in human beings which are transmitted sexually. This is a kind of abnormality of cells. It is a result that is obtained in pap test and is considered to be abnormal. Apart from HPV it may be caused because of inflammation of the cervical cells and even because of atrophic vaginitis.
Causes and symptoms of LSIL
-
It usually occurs in the uterine cervix where the lesions are identified by the individual cells or the sheets of the cells. These cells have unusual nuclei and have borders which can be easily differentiated. These cells are easily detected during the pap test. It is strange and difficult to believe that as many as 30 strands of HPV, which is the main cause of these lesions, can occur and exist in the genital area of the affected person. Genital warts are also mainly caused HPV. As per the research of Rutgers University, 13 of these HPV strands are capable of leading the lesions to cancerous stage but it happens rarely. However another fact is that cervical cancer is mainly caused by HPV.

Cervical cell inflammation is another cause for LSIL though it always does not mean that inflammation in cervix would cause LSIL and this is why once detected, many pap tests are performed so as to check if inflammation is going down or not. Ideally it should go down if it is not leading to Lsil.

Atrophic Vaginitis is also inflammation of cervix and can lead to LSIL. This is also detected during pap test. This is a stage which is caused by decreased lubrication and thinning of tissues which happens because of low level of estrogen in the body. As per the research of University of Maryland Medical Center Atrophic Vaginitis is usually found in women who are soon to experience menopause. If someone is suffering from this type of inflammation then they may experience pain at the time of intercourse, soreness and even blood in the urine. This can be easily treated by using prescribed moisturizing creams so as to keep the vagina moist.

Cervical dysplasia is also caused by HPV and it can also cause LSIL. Detection of Cervical dysplasia does not mean cervical cancer but it can eventually lead to it. It is basically growth of cells in cervix in an unusual way and there are hardly any symptoms to help in detection of this stage. Some of the patients may experience bleeding soon after the intercourse. If this is mild infection then it may disappear without any treatment but if it is severe or even moderate then the person may have to undergo surgery so that the growth can be removed.
